JAVED Legal and Immigration Services respects the confidentiality of the information clients and prospective clients provide. This policy explains what is collected through this website, why, and how it is handled. It is intended to reflect the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the practice’s professional obligations.
Information collected through this website
The website collects only the information you choose to send. If you complete the enquiry form, that is your name, email address, telephone number if given, the type of matter and the description you provide. If you email or telephone the office, it is whatever you choose to tell us.
The website does not ask for identity documents, passports, case files or other sensitive documents, and you are asked not to send them through the enquiry or assessment form unless the office has specifically asked you to. Where documents are needed, an appropriate method for providing them will be arranged at the time.
How the information is used
Information sent through this website is used to respond to your enquiry, to determine whether the practice can assist, and to arrange a consultation. It is not sold, rented or traded, and it is not used for unrelated marketing.
Confidentiality before and after a retainer
Sending an enquiry does not create a professional relationship. Until a retainer is agreed in writing, information you send cannot be treated as confidential to the same extent as information given by a client, and the practice may already be acting for someone with an opposing interest. Please keep first enquiries brief for that reason.
Service providers and where information is held
The practice uses the following providers, each of which handles some of the information described above:
- WordPress.com, operated by Automattic Inc. Hosts this website and stores the content of enquiries submitted through it.
- Jetpack, also operated by Automattic. Provides the enquiry form on this website and the aggregate visit statistics described below.
- Akismet, also operated by Automattic. Checks form submissions for spam, which involves sending the submission and the sender’s IP address for assessment.
- Calendly. Operates the consultation booking process. Booking a consultation means giving your information to Calendly under its own terms.
- IMMeFile. Used for immigration assessments and for managing client files.
- LawPay. Processes online payments. The practice does not receive or store your full card details.
Several of these providers store and process information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held outside Canada may be accessible to the authorities of the country where it is stored, under the laws of that country. Each provider publishes its own privacy terms, and using the booking or payment links on this website means dealing with that provider directly as well as with the practice.
Cookies and website statistics
The website uses a small number of cookies necessary for the site to function and to compile anonymous statistics about how pages are used. No advertising or profiling cookies are used at present. If that changes, this policy and a consent notice will be updated first.
Retention, access and correction
Information is retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and as required by applicable legal and professional obligations.
You may write to the office to ask what personal information the practice holds about you, and to ask that it be corrected if it is inaccurate. You may also ask that information be deleted. Any such request will be considered, but the practice may be unable to delete information that it is required to keep under applicable legal, professional, accounting or recordkeeping obligations, and it will tell you if that is the case.
