How we can help
The practice works in four distinct areas. Each is regulated differently, and each has its own requirements and timelines.
Canadian immigration
Sponsorship of family members, visitor and super visa applications, work and study permits, permanent residence, permanent resident cards and citizenship, and assistance where an application has been refused.
Refugee claims and appeals
Representation in refugee claims before the Refugee Protection Division, appeals to the Refugee Appeal Division, and appeals at the Immigration Appeal Division, including sponsorship, removal order and residency obligation appeals.
Paralegal services
Representation within the scope of an Ontario paralegal licence: Landlord and Tenant Board matters for landlords and tenants, Small Claims Court claims and defences, and traffic and provincial offence charges.
Notary and commissioning
Affidavits, statutory declarations, letters of invitation and other documents commissioned or notarised at the Scarborough office, including documents prepared for immigration applications.
About Syed Javed Hussain
Syed Javed Hussain founded JAVED Legal and Immigration Services and handles the practice’s immigration, tribunal and commissioning work. He holds two separate professional licences, which together allow him to advise and represent clients in immigration matters and in Ontario tribunal and court matters within a paralegal’s scope of practice.
Both regulators publish a public register, and clients are encouraged to check any representative’s licence before retaining them. The practice does not take on work that falls outside these licences; where a matter requires a lawyer, that will be said plainly.
How working with the practice usually proceeds
Every matter is different, but most follow the same four stages.
1. First enquiry
You tell us briefly what the matter involves, by telephone, by email or through an assessment form. We confirm whether it is work the practice can take.
2. Consultation
We review your documents and circumstances together, explain the options and their realistic prospects, and set out what each would involve.
3. Retainer and preparation
If you decide to proceed, the scope of work and the fees are confirmed in writing before work begins. Documents are then prepared and reviewed with you.
4. Filing and follow-up
The application or proceeding is filed and monitored, and you are kept informed of what has been received, what is outstanding and what happens next.
No one can guarantee the outcome of an application or a hearing, and any professional who does so should be treated with caution. What the practice offers is careful preparation, accurate advice about your options, and representation within its licensed scope.

Who we assist
Most clients come from Scarborough and the eastern Greater Toronto Area. Immigration matters are federal, so those clients may live anywhere in Canada or outside it. Paralegal matters are heard by Ontario tribunals and courts, and commissioning services are provided in person at the Scarborough office.
